The Return Of Al- Mustapha:
Nigeria
is a State; where evil are being paid for good. A society where
charlatans, reprobates, rogue, criminals and rascals are rewarded for the evil
well-done.The recent release of Major Hamza Al-Mustapha former Chief Security
Officer(CSO) to the late former iron fist leader; General Sani Abacha is
raising an eyebrow. Mustapha who served a lengthy period of incarceration (15
yrs) at Kirikiri Maximum prison for murder charges against him over the death
of Kudirat Abiola the wife of the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993
presidential election late Chief, MKO Abiola.
Mahatma
Gandhi an Indian noble leader who warned the tyrant leadership of this evil
world... saying “Remember that all through history, there have been
tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they seem invincible. But in the
end,they always fall. Always.”
On 30th January 2012 he was sentenced to death through hanging by
the Lagos state High Court Judge Mojisola, Lateef Sofolahan under section 319
of criminal code Laws of Lagos State. His trial witnessed one of the longest
legal battles in Nigerian judicial history.
The
country’s legal system has been a flaw coupled with the crop of parochial
Judges that beclouded our judicial system.* However Mustapha’s case
starting from day one; of his trial has been rocked with lots of judicial
errors hanging over his case this include his long detention without trial and
inability to present good facts and evidence to prosecute him. As
the saying goes that” justice delayed is justice denied” this infringed his
fundamental human Right.
Now
that the dust has settled Al- Mustapha is a free man. The legion of sycophants
has once again begin beating drum for the man who worked tirelessly in making
sure he uprooted his master’s foes during those years of such a maximum leader.
He was a hit man for the late General. He made nonsense of chains of command of
the rank and file of the Nigerian Army during those perilous days of Abacha
era. Mustapha a man who created divides and rule in the military; a
junior officer in the hierarchy of command and became second man in command.
He
was given a rousing welcome in his home town in Kano and a reception was held
in his honour same day he was released to welcome him once again to the free
world. However his freedom might play a great significance. This could be a
morale booster to Northern Political dichotomy which might signify the
emergence of a new era in the Northern political leadership.
In
as much as the case has ended the Nigerian judicial system represents
repugnance to the civil society. As the saying goes that Judiciary is a the
last hope for a common man but reverse is the case in a country where
corruption, contract killing, kidnapping, impersonation, character
assassination, infringement of human right etc becomes the order of the
day.
The
question one would ask is ...Who killed Kudirat Abiola? After the
recommendation of Justice Chukwudife Oputa panel of inquiry which gulped
several millions of naira to realized unfortunately the government failed to
implement it. Today Al-Mustapha has turned to be an overnight
celebrity by some filthy politicians who will assiduously gallivant around and
induce him to pitch tent to their political parties.
Barely
a week he was released opinions from different quarters has been praising; a
man who unleashed terror to the civil society; a man who aided his boss to
silent the popular opinion of the masses. The Abacha hay days of the 90s were
such a bloody era where many civil right activists were incarcerated, tortured
and many lost their lives.
The
Nigerian leadership has failed the masses. The Military was up against the
masses during those brutal years of obnoxious regime, many civilians were
dehumanised; while lots were murdered and others varnished without trace up
till the present day.
It
is very dishearten that the leadership of President GoodLuck Ebere Jonathan
failed to put things right. President Jonathan is the third leader after the
Nigeria/Biafra civil war that has been in office of without a military
background or trace. This would have given him an edge to put things right not
minding on whose cow is gore. The world is watching the country every day on
each decision it takes especially in the area of Human Right.
As
HamzaAl- Mustapha is back on the scene sooner or later; he will engage in
politics in order to keep life moving. The question once again is... Which
political party is he pitching tent with? As his release must have
been an orchestrated plan by some politicians to win 2015 general election. The
second question is... Who will Mustapha work for? As events continue to unfold
in the next coming weeks, many Nigerians are watching on how this will play
out.. Time will tell...
