Nigerian Government should stop chasing Wild goose

“In a state-run society the government promises you security.  But it's a false promise predicated on the idea that the opposite of security is risk.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  The opposite of security is insecurity, and the only way to overcome insecurity is to take risks.  The gentle government that promises to hold your hand as you cross the street refuses to let go on the other side.”...Theodore Forstmann

The killing of some members of MASSOB by government security agents has once again shown the high level of bias, hatred and insincerity on the side of the GoodLuck Ebere Jonathan’s administration. It is very regrettable that Boko Haram a terror organisation which has a great link with AL Quaeda in North Africa has been allowed to inflict pains on Nigerians. The government itself has become subject of intimidation and humiliation by this terror group. Boko Haram has made nonsense of government security intelligence by bombing the key hub of the nation’s security system. Upon all these atrocities, government still wants to extended hands of friendship through dialogue which the group has bluntly rejected on several occasions.

The Movement of Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has never carried out any terror act or in any way killed any religious sect or group but rather, it has been a non- violence organisation which has been championing the course of Freedom and Unity of Ndi’Igbo. The Killing of its 16 members and injuring 83 others was an act of aggression and sign of cowardice on the side of the government.

The government has been all along, treated Boko Haram with kid glove forgetting that countries like the United States and Britain never negotiate with terror groups despite heavy causalities which they’ve recorded on their home soil  as a result of terror attack, they resorted in finding solutions to their security problems through tightening up security and sharing intelligence information.

The government knows the benefactors of Boko Haram through some members of this terror group who have been previously apprehended. Several occasions some of them have made confession by calling names of some Northern big wigs Politicians unfortunately, no arrest and no interrogation has been made.  Reasons because government is afraid to unmask the devil but the question is how long these killings will continue?

The Boko Haram claimed that its agenda is purely religious which their aggression is based on Islamizing the whole country but underneath it is political. They’ve tried several occasion to overthrow the present government which they’ve carried out their terror act to the seat of power in Abuja even threaten to kill the President but MASSOB as a group, has never threaten anybody or threaten the sovereignty of Nigeria. By now the government should have loosen up on MASSOB because this group is not a threat to the nation but rather, the real threat is the Boko Haram.  The continuous arrest and killing of MASSOB members by the government might not be in their own interest because there’s an adage which says” he who lives in a glass house shouldn’t throw stones.” especially now that the unity of the country is being questioned.

The government should stop attacking unarmed civilians and face the real challenge at hand which is the Boko Haram. Nigerians are tired of seeing blood of their innocent ones being spilled daily.   Government should reassure Nigerians a maximum security of lives and properties. No better time to do that, other than now.®
